After leading Duke to an ACC title, star wideout Cooper Barkate joins the Miami Hurricanes' explosive offense, eyeing a top-tier NFL Draft stock and a national championship run.

Miami, FL. – The Miami Hurricanes were among the most successful programs in the 2026 NFL Draft, having nine players selected within the 257 picks. Immediately after all seven rounds, four would sign with organizations as undrafted free agents, plus kicker Carter Davis received a rookie minicamp invite from the Kansas City Chiefs. As a new season approaches, there will be several more prospects looking to leave the program on a high note.

Among the several players eligible for the 2027 NFL Draft is wide receiver redshirt senior Cooper Barkate. He arrived in Coral Gables through the transfer portal, alongside quarterback Darian Mensah, after a career season with the Duke Blue Devils: catching 72 passes for 1,106 yards, scoring seven touchdowns, and starting in all 14 games. The California native earned All-ACC Second Team honors. Barkate looks to elevate the Hurricanes’ offense ahead of next season, which would impact future draft stock value.

In PFF’s 2027 Big Board, the 23-year-old was ranked the No. 64 overall highest prospect, No. 8 among wide receivers.

“Barkate posted three productive seasons in the Ivy League at Harvard before a successful stop at Duke last season,” they wrote. “Now he heads to Coral Gables alongside quarterback Darian Mensah. He enters 2026 with nearly 3,000 yards of collegiate experience.”

Barkate was the Blue Devils’ leading receiver and played a significant role in delivering the program’s first ACC Football Championship since 1989. He looks to bring a similar impact to the Hurricanes, but with an opportunity to go after something bigger: a National Championship. Barkate is a projected starter, capable of playing on either wideout side of the field or in the slot.

In the April 18 spring practice exhibition game, Barkate caught a touchdown pass from Mensah, plus made a high-vertical catch over coverage. The successful chemistry between the former Blue Devils is expected to translate over to the Hurricanes.

Barkate is not projected to be a first-round selection in the 2027 NFL Draft, but playing for a National Championship contender could change things by next April. He will have the opportunity to showcase every skill developed on a higher platform.

The Hurricanes currently have two All-ACC wide receivers on the roster, both of whom ran for 1,100-plus receiving yards: Barkate and homegrown star Malachi Toney.

The program’s newly revamped offense is projected to be among the best in the nation. Barkate looks to help the Hurricanes return to the College Football Playoffs, carve out another National Championship run, but finish with different results.
