Freshman standout CJ Cypher has identified Coral Gables as a top destination, bringing elite accuracy and deep-ball threat to the Miami Hurricanes' long-term recruiting radar.
Miami, Fla. – The Miami Hurricanes’ 2027 recruiting class is near its completion following the flip of five-star edge rusher Jaiden Bryant from LSU. Already with 18 commits, including 14 blue-chip players, the group is on pace to finish among the top five nationally. However, recruiting hardly ever stops, especially for those who lie ahead.
It was reported on Thursday evening that unranked quarterback CJ Cypher is drawn to 10 programs, including the Hurricanes, part of the 2029 recruiting class. He currently attends Carrollton High School, a public institution located in Carroll County, Georgia. As a freshman, Cypher completed 144 of 201 passes, 71.6 completion percentage, throwing for 2,178 yards and 26 touchdowns, including three interceptions, in 14 games.
Cypher doesn’t shy away from throwing the football deep down the field; the longest was 64 yards, according to MaxPreps. He can improve by developing as a dual-threat quarterback, rushing only four times for 16 yards and scoring two touchdowns. The better Cypher can extend plays by running outside of the pocket, the more it will carve out opportunities for himself or others.
The other nine programs in the running: Florida Gators, Florida State Seminoles, Alabama Crimson Tide, Indiana Hoosiers, Ohio State Buckeyes, Notre Dame Fighting Irish, Auburn Tigers, Georgia Bulldogs, and Kentucky Wildcats.
Cypher already made a handful of unofficial visits, including a trip down to the Coral Gables campus and facility on Oct. 25, 2025–a game day at Hard Rock Stadium against the Stanford Cardinal, which resulted in a Hurricanes 42-7 victory.
There is still a long way to go in Cypher’s recruitment, but given the program’s recent track record of transfer portal quarterbacks, it could be a challenge to lure him in. The latest addition–Darian Mensah–is expected to be a one-and-done situation. Meanwhile, the Hurricanes have several quarterbacks who could be looking to take over, barring any portal departures, such as Luke Nickel, Judd Anderson, and Dereon Coleman.
Plus, the program received a commitment from five-star quarterback Israel Abrams for the 2027 recruiting class and three-star Knox Annis for 2028.
There are realistic National Championship aspirations surrounding Coral Gables following a historic 13-3 season. After successfully revamping the roster, coach Mario Cristobal and the program are looking to take steps forward.
As of right now, the Hurricanes–as expected–don’t have any commits for the 2029 class. However, 67 players were offered, including Cyphers. There’s still a long way to go, but it’s never too early to work ahead.
