The Miami Hurricanes men's basketball program add experienced Patriot League guard Quin Berger, aiming to bolster backcourt depth and compete for a crucial rotational role next season.

The Miami Hurricanes men’s basketball program underwent a successful offseason. They signed a couple of top-market transfer portal prospects in guard Acaden Lewis and center Somto Cyril. Afterwards, three-point specialist and power forward DeSean Goode was added to the roster. The team is shaping to compete, not only within the Atlantic Coast Conference, but among the best in the nation.

Coach Jai Lucas still had voids to fill and secured another transfer portal talent in guard Quin Berger. He spent three years with the Bucknell Bisons, a program that competes in the Men’s Patriot League. Berger was sidelined for the entire 2024-25 season due to suffering an ACL tear in a preseason workout.

After a long journey of recovery, the veteran guard returned to action and finished with career numbers: 3.1 points on 32.6 percent shooting, 30.6 percent three-point range, and 1.4 rebounds in 30 games, including eight starts.

Berger was an unranked recruit coming from Westtown School, a private co-educational institution located in West Chester, Pennsylvania. There are no statistics available about the guard’s performance. He still managed to earn offers from a few programs, committing to the Saint Joseph’s Hawks on April 20, 2022. Berger only appeared in five games as a freshman, then entered the transfer portal and joined the Bisons’ roster.

The 22-year-old will look to compete for a rotational role with the Hurricanes, who are coming off a historic 26-9 season. Despite numerous departures, including guard Tre Donaldson, forward Malik Reneau, and center Ernest Udeh Jr., all of whom declared for the upcoming NBA Draft, the program successfully revamped the roster for next season. They retained key pieces, such as forward Shelton Henderson and guard Dante Allen.

Berger will add depth to the Hurricanes’ backcourt, but the lack of past production won’t guarantee a spot in the rotation. If the incoming veteran guard wants to prove himself to coach Lucas, showcasing defensive strengths could carve out a role. He’s listed at 6-2, 200 pounds, similar to Donaldson's measurements: 6-3, 198 pounds.

The Hurricanes currently have four new additions from the transfer portal, including a couple of high school recruits in five-star Caleb Gaskins and Chris Birden.

The program reached the NCAA Tournament for the first time since the historic 2023 Final Four run. They fell short of the Sweet 16 after suffering a 79-69 loss to the Missouri Tigers.

Despite the recent success, coach Lucas isn’t complacent and seeks to take the Hurricanes to new heights.
