Horizon League Player of the Year DeSean Goode joins the Miami Hurricanes men's basketball program, bringing scoring prowess and elite three-point shooting to a team seeking ACC dominance.

The Miami Hurricanes men’s basketball program continues its strong offseason after officially signing guard Acaden Lewis and center Somto Cyril, both acquired through the transfer portal. Coming off a historic 26-9 season, the team struggled with three-point shooting, finishing among the bottom in makes and attempts in the Atlantic Coast Conference. However, the issues could be solved after DeSean Goode reportedly committed to the Hurricanes on Sunday, April 19.

The West Virginia native is a 6-8, 230-pound forward who previously played for the Robert Morris Colonials. He’s coming off a career season: 15.2 points on 62.9 percent shooting, which led the Men’s Horizon League, 57.1 three-point percentage, 8.7 rebounds, another conference-leading stat, and 1.4 assists. The incoming junior played in 33 games, 32 starts. He earned the Horizon League Player of the Year award and All-League First Team.

Goode was the Colonials’ second-highest scorer, behind guard Ryan Pather Jr. with 15.7, and rebound leader. He’s likely to take a backseat role on the Hurricanes, but is likely to be relied upon as the team’s leading outside shooter.

Given the latest addition, there will be a competition for the starting power forward role between Goode and five-star freshman Caleb Gaskins. Coach Jai Lucas doesn’t shy away from playing incoming high school recruits, starting Shelton Henderson in all 35 games last season.

After the recent commit, the Hurricanes are currently fifth in the 247Sports 2026 transfer portal class rankings, second among ACC programs.

The success of coach Lucas’ introduction season established the foundation for what’s to come. The Hurricanes went as far as the Round of 32 in the NCAA Tournament. They were led by seniors Tre Donaldson, Mallik Reneau, and Ernest Udeh Jr, all of whom have officially declared for the upcoming NBA Draft. However, none of them are projected to be top-60 selections.

The current roster consists of six committed players for next season. The Hurricanes are in the mix with several other transfer portal prospects. Also, there’s the possibility of players from the transfer withdrawing and returning, such as forward Timotej Malovec, who reportedly attended the football program’s spring game on Saturday, April 18.

The NCAA men’s basketball transfer portal window closes on Tuesday, April 21, with players having until the end of the day to be submitted.

The Hurricanes started the offseason on a strong note, looking to finish among the nation’s best and earn contention status. The addition of Goode looks to boost the team’s chances for next season.
