The Miami Hurricanes men's basketball program eye another transfer portal pickup. Sebastian Williams-Adams offers size and potentially reuniting with a familiar Texas connection.

The Miami Hurricanes men’s basketball program continues to put forth a strong offseason. After officially signing guard Acaden Lewis and center Somto Cyril, both of whom arrived through the transfer portal, coach Jai Lucas secured a commitment from sharpshooting forward DeSean Goode. The roster still has voids to fill, but it’s shaping up to compete among the best in the nation.

As the transfer portal window for men’s basketball is set to close at the end of Tuesday, the Hurricanes remain in the hunt for talent. They’ve expressed interest in several players, including Sebastian Williams-Adams, who announced his decision to enter it on social media. According to reports, the Texas native is open to joining the Coral Gables program.

Williams-Adams spent last season with the Auburn Tigers as a freshman, averaging seven points on 50.5 percent shooting, 30.8 percent from three-point range, 3.5 rebounds, 1.5 assists, and 1.2 steals in 38 total appearances, including 21 starts. The team went 22-16, 7-11 in Southeastern Conference play, didn’t appear in the NCAA Tournament, but won the National Invitational Tournament.

The 19-year-old is listed at 6-8, 230 pounds, and was a four-star recruit coming from St. John’s School in Houston. He grew up approximately 12 miles away from Hurricanes forward Shelton Henderson, who’s from Bellaire, Texas. They have played together since elementary, were teammates on the Nike EYBL circuit with JL3 Elite, and won the US Open Basketball Championship in 10th grade.

Henderson played a significant role in the Hurricanes’ 26-9 historic turnaround season. He averaged 13.8 points on 56.7 percent shooting, 4.9 rebounds, 2.1 assists, and 1.1 steals, starting in all 35 games. After officially committing to return for next season, Henderson is expected to inherit an expanded role and increase production.

Williams-Adams can provide size and be a fit in the team’s defensive schemes. The Hurricanes could be viewed as early favorites to land him, especially with the Texas connection with Henderson and coach Lucas. There will likely be several other programs in the mix with interest.

Coach Lucas established a new foundation, a winning culture, and a standard within the Hurricanes men’s basketball program. After reaching the NCAA Tournament, going as far as the Round of 32, the 37-year-old looks to take things a step further. They secured three key transfer portal additions, with Williams-Adams looking to be the next piece to the puzzle.

As the window closes, a decision doesn’t necessarily have to be made right away. It could be a long process or a quick one before Williams-Adams chooses to travel to South Florida or join a whole other program.
