The New York Giants secure dominant offensive tackle Francis Mauigoa to anchor Jaxson Dart's protection. Expect immediate impact and a fierce line presence.

In the first round of the 2026 NFL Draft, Miami Hurricanes offensive tackle Francis Mauigoa was selected by the New York Giants with the 10th pick. The Ili’ili, America Somoan native, joins an organization looking to strengthen the protection of quarterback Jaxson Dart. The team gave up 48 sacks last season, 10th most in the league. However, Mauigoa looks to change that.

“I’m ready to die for you [Jaxson Dart] man,” he said. “I know a lot of things has happened bro, but I’m ready to die for you bro.”

Mauigoa proved to be a dominant force in three years with the Hurricanes, primarily playing at right tackle, and starting in 42 consecutive games. Last season, he recorded 1,034 offensive snaps played, only giving up 15 total pressures, four hits, and two sacks. Mauigoa was a consensus First Team All-American, the ACC Jacobs Blocking Trophy winner, and First Team All-ACC.

The 20-year-old declined to participate in the Scouting Combine in Indianapolis, Indiana. However, the newest member of the Giants took part in Miami’s Pro Day. Mauigoa recorded a 5.12 40-yard dash, 1.78 10-yard splits, and jumped a 29-inch vertical. He’s listed at 6-5 1/2, 329 pounds, 33 1/4 arm length, and 10 5/8 inch hands at the Combine. Given the measurements, there have been narratives and conversations about him playing in a different position, most notably within the interior.

Mauigoa has stated that a change of role wouldn’t be an issue, despite never playing a collegiate snap at any other spot within the line of scrimmage. He gained experience in sharpening versatile skillsets from behind-the-scenes practices.

According to Spotrac, the top-10 prospect is expected to sign a fully guaranteed, four-year, $30.9 million rookie contract, including a $18.9 million signing bonus.

Ahead of the NFL Draft, there were concerns about Mauigoa’s back disc injury. He attended a Combine medical recheck and underwent additional imaging after experiencing discomfort. There were no new issues or concerns to come from it. However, reports suggest that surgery will be needed to clean up the injury at some point.

Mauigoa becomes the third-highest offensive lineman to be drafted in program history, behind Minnesota Vikings’ Bryant McKinnie, who went seventh in 2002 and Giants’ Ereck Flowers going ninth in 2015.

The highly-touted prospect played a pivotal role in the Hurricanes' turnaround, resulting in a National Championship appearance. He enters a similar situation, but at the highest level of football. Mauigoa is projected to make an immediate impact for the Giants and provide high-level protection, regardless of position.

The Giants’ selection resulted in the Hurricanes securing back-to-back top-10 prospects for the first time since 2005. Another historic milestone for the program among the many.
