Elite four-star point guard Tyrone Jamison plans a visit, hinting at the Miami Hurricanes' push to secure future talent amidst roster reshaping and a winning culture.
Miami, FL. – The Miami Hurricanes men’s basketball program has found success in back-to-back spring transfer portal windows. After losing guard Tre Donaldson, forward Malik Reneau, and center Ernest Udeh Jr. to the upcoming NBA Draft, they have added Acaden Lewis, Somto Cyril, DeSean Goode, and Quin Berger. However, the biggest factors in a successful offseason were retaining Shelton Henderson and Dante Allen, both being productive freshmen and looking to earn expanded roles.
There are still four open roster spots remaining on the current roster, but the Hurricanes are simultaneously building for the future. It was first reported by CanesInSight that four-star point guard Tyrone Jamison plans to take a visit around the Coral Gables campus. No potential dates were mentioned.
Jamison currently attends Calvary Baptist Academy, a private co-educational institution located in Shreveport, Louisiana. He averaged 16.3 points on 60 percent shooting, 48 percent from behind the arc, 3.9 rebounds, six assists, and 1.6 steals in 100 games from a freshman to junior. The four-star recruit is ranked 42nd nationally, 10th among point guards, and second in the state of Louisiana for the 2027 class, according to 247Sports Composite. He’s listed at 6-1, 155 pounds.
The Hurricanes are among several programs expressing interest and have presented an offer, including the Alabama Crimson Tide, LSU Tigers, Arkansas Razorbacks, Louisville Cardinals, Oklahoma State Cowboys, SMU Mustangs, TCU Horned Frogs, Texas A&M Aggies, and Tulane Green Wave, plus more.
Jamison took an official visit with the Maryland Terrapins on Jan 2 and is primarily recruited by assistant coach Steve Roccaforte.
The Hurricanes currently don’t have any commits from the 2027 class, but have made offers to several highly-touted players, such as five-star Beckham Black, four-star Cayden Daughtry, four-star Oneal Delancy, and five-star Obinna Ekezie Jr., all of whom are from the state of Florida.
Coach Jai Lucas led the program to a historic 26-9 turnaround season, finishing third in the Atlantic Coast Conference, and reached the NCAA Tournament. However, it was only the establishment of a new winning culture and foundation. If the Hurricanes continue to build on the latest success, it puts them in a strong position to land significantly talented recruits.
Jamison still has more room to grow, especially in the weight room, which would be beneficial upon entering the collegiate level. The commitment of the highly-touted point guard will likely be a race to the finish, one that the Hurricanes look to win.
