The North Carolina Tar Heels continue to deal with the injury bug this season.

The injury bug continues to haunt the North Carolina Tar Heels during the 2025-26 season.

One of the main storylines surrounding the program lately has been star forward Caleb Wilson’s injury, which caused him to miss the team’s previous contest against North Carolina State. Wilson has been the program’s main scorer on offense this year, as he’s averaged 19.8 points in his 24 games played this season.

To make matters worse, the injury bug took another victim in Tar Heels’ star center, Henri Veesaar.

Following the team’s horrific loss on Tuesday against the Wolfpack, head coach Hubert Davis gave a promising outlook on Veesaar’s status, claiming that he is “day-to-day.”

“His outlook is day to day,” Davis stated on Tuesday night. “Every day, he’s getting better. In regard to the lower extremities, he’s getting better, also with his flu. He’s making huge strides every day, and every day we’ll evaluate and see when he’s available to practice, and then when he’s able to practice, see when he’s able to play.”

While Davis seemed positive in his remark towards Veesaar’s status, Inside Carolina’s Spencer Haskell reported on Wednesday, "A team spokesman confirmed on Wednesday that the seven-footer is, in fact, being held out of practice."

Throughout the 2025-26 season, Veesaar has proven to be a key playmaker for Davis and the Tar Heels. In his 24 games played this year, the junior center has averaged 16.4 points per game and nine rebounds, making him the perfectly complementary piece to Wilson.

However, with Wilson sidelined due to an injury of his own, North Carolina’s offense lacked juice in Tuesday’s matchup against the Wolfpack. Sophomore forward Zayden High took over as the team’s main scorer in the contest, but his 13-point, 10-rebound performance was not enough for the Tar Heels.

Now, Davis and his squad will have an uphill battle until both Wilson and Veesaar return from injury. Outside of High, senior guard Seth Trimble will be the next man up to take over the offense in Saturday’s matchup against the Syracuse Orangemen.

Trimble is currently the only healthy player on the Tar Heels’ roster who averages double-digit points per game this year (13.3), but he struggled to generate any offense against the Wolfpack. Trimble shot 1-9 from the field and 0-3 from beyond the arc in Tuesday night’s battle.
