As the North Carolina Tar Heels navigate a brutal October slate, another potential ranked, undefeated conference foe looms.

The North Carolina Tar Heels schedule may feature a span where they have to play four ranked opponents in five games.

From Oct. 3-31, they'll have played No. 3 Notre Dame, No. 25 Pittsburgh, Duke, Syracuse, and No. 4 Miami.

While there's still time for the Hurricanes to fall out of the AP Top 25 by the time Halloween comes around, that's likely not going to happen with how well Darian Mensah has been playing.

It's crucial this 2-2 Tar Heels squad doesn't look past Pittsburgh, but come Week 7, there's a possibility the Blue Devils will be 5-0 and in the rankings.

Duke only has Georgia Tech to deal with in Week 6, a 1-3 team that has gotten off to an 0-1 start in ACC action.

So, while this wouldn't be the most impressive win in the world for Duke, they received 83 votes in the most recent AP Poll, which unofficially puts them at No. 29.

Obviously, if UNC were to knock off Pittsburgh, that would remove the Panthers from the rankings, and then things get interesting with Wisconsin, Wake Forest, and Kentucky as the only other teams ahead of the Blue Devils.

Duke will likely be 5-0 by Week 7

ESPN Analytics gives the Blue Devils a 72.6% chance to knock off the Yellow Jackets, but Georgia Tech is indeed the home team for this one.

Anything can happen at Bobby Todd Stadium, but this is a Georgia Tech team that has only defeated Mercer this season.

In hindsight, their loss against Colorado looks far worse, and they were just taken down by a 2-3 Stanford squad.

There was nothing wrong with losing to No. 18 Tennessee, but with how they've been to start the year, it's safe to assume Duke will get the job done and UNC could head to Wallace Wade Stadium to take on a ranked team.

Toughest stretch of the season

Losing to Clemson started the downward trajectory of what has perfectly summed up the Bill Belichick era.

While there was no shame in losing to No. 3 Notre Dame, this could very well be a stretch where UNC drops four of five and once again fails to make a bowl game.

At this point, beating Syracuse isn't even a lock, and then after the Hurricanes come to town, UNC still has four opponents to face who are currently all 2-3 or 3-2.
