Despite a two-game skid and a grueling schedule ahead, this analyst remains optimistic about Bill Belichick steering the North Carolina Tar Heels toward a bowl game.

According to ESPN's Football Power Index, the North Carolina Tar Heels are still projected to finish 6-6.

Officially, their win-loss prediction is 5.8-6.2 which is good for the sixth fewest wins in the ACC.

In terms of making a bowl game, six wins is the magic number, but not everyone believes this projection will come true.

Once again, ESPN's Kyle Bonagura and Mark Schlabach came together to predict the matchup of every bowl game, and Bonagura continues to hold down his prediction that the Tar Heels will miss out for a second consecutive season.

Going 4-8 in Bill Belichick's season wasn't the plan, but then he had his first full offseason to bring in players through the portal.

Heading into Week 6, UNC is just 2-2 (0-1), having lost their last two games.

Now, all eyes are on this matchup against No. 25 Pittsburgh, and if that's not enough, they may have to face a ranked Duke team in Week 7 before taking on No. 4 Miami on Halloween.

Schlabach believes UNC will make a bowl game

ESPN's FPI is updated almost daily, but the biggest updates come on the Sunday's after these teams do battle.

To no surprise, UNC continues to fall in the rankings as they're down to No. 47 nationally.

One could argue they're a lock to loss the Miami game, so ranked losses to the Panthers and Hurricanes would mean they would have to win four of their other six games.

On paper, that's extremely do-able, though it depends which version of this UNC team shows up.

Making a bowl game is still a very real possibility, especially with teams like Syracuse, UConn, and Louisville still on the schedule.

That would put them at five wins, so if you take Pitt and Miami out of the equation, they'd just have to take care of business against Duke, Virginia, or NC State.

JLAB Birmingham Bowl is the prediction

In the post-Week 5 bowl game projections, Schlabach has UNC taking on Auburn in the JLab Birmingham Bowl.

This game is set to take place on Tuesday, Dec. 29 from Protective Stadium in Birmingham, Alabama.

For reference, Bonagura is nowhere near on the same page as he believes this game will feature Kentucky against Tulane.

No matter what, Schlabach continues to believe in this Tar Heels squad, so there's still plenty of optimism that UNC can overcome a two-game skid to make Belichick's first bowl game.
