Could Bill Belichick go back to the NFL?
The North Carolina Tar Heels are coming off a big win over their rivals, the Duke Blue Devils, heading into the current week.
Over the last two weeks, North Carolina has started to play much better, with the team winning two games in a row. The Tar Heels also took down the Pittsburgh Panthers before Duke, with this group starting to round into form.
Under head coach Bill Belichick, the Tar Heels have been slow to get going, but in his second season, it has started to come together. Belichick has taken a lot of heat during his tenure with North Carolina, mainly due to an investigation into the football program.
Belichick and the team have been able to overcome all the outside noise, allowing their play on the field to do the talking. Some around the program have wanted Belichick to leave following the investigation, but at least for now, there doesn't seem to be a chance of that happening.
However, due to the success that North Carolina is seeing, could Belichick look to leave and return to the NFL? The longtime NFL head coach has been linked to the Dallas Cowboys by 105.3 The FAN.
It was discussed about a possible move for Belichick to come back to the NFL to run the Dallas Cowboys. There have been rumors that Dallas is looking to fire head coach Brian Schottenheimer following a slow start to the season.
If the Cowboys were to look to make a splash hire, assuming that they moved on from Schottenheimer, Belichick could be the answer. The veteran coach could help lead the historic franchise back to glory, and this could be his chance to return to the league.
It remains unknown if Belichick even wants to go back to the NFL, especially with him finding some success at North Carolina. But the Cowboys could be an interesting option that most head coaches would have a hard time turning down.
The other question with Dallas would be whether Belichick wanted to deal with Cowboys owner Jerry Jones, who has been a handful for some coaches to handle. But Belichick is a veteran who has won multiple Super Bowl titles in his career, and he would likely be able to deal with Jones.
While this hypothetical move is interesting to think about, it remains unlikely at this point for the veteran coach. Belichick seems happy at North Carolina, and the program has been excited about the progress that this team has made in his second year.
