The senior transfer dismantled Miami’s defense with four touchdowns and an elite completion percentage.
To no surprise, the North Carolina Tar Heels quarterback was honored after his heroic performance against No. 1 Miami.
The Hurricanes offense has been a focal point as to why they've been the No. 1 team for three straight weeks now, but their defense simply wasn't up for the challenge against Billy Edwards Jr.
The senior QB threw a career-high four passing touchdowns against the top-ranked team in the nation.
Edwards finished 28/34 for 341 yards with an out-of-this-world completion percentage at 82.4%.
The Wisconsin transfer didn't get to play much at all last year due to injury, but he decided to come join Bill Belichick for his senior season, and just put forward one of the best performances of his entire career.
On Monday, Nov. 2, Edwards was honored by being named the ACC Quarterback of the Week.
Edwards wins weekly honors
Officially, Edwards had a QB rating of 205.4, and the press released touted "one of the best" completion percentages "of his collegiate career."
Edwards was graded 77.7 by Pro Football Focus, which was a new season high for the Virginia native.
Of his 28 completions, nine different receivers got involved in the game, eight of which finished with more than one catch.
It's crazy to think the Hurricanes' defense caused him to throw a pair of incompletions to start the game, but then Edwards would complete 12 straight before ending the game completing eight of his last nine.
Belichick has been waiting for this level of elite QB play since coming from the NFL, and he couldn't have asked for a better time for Edwards to get hot.
UNC is still a couple of wins away from being bowl-eligible, but on paper, they should have no issue picking up a fifth win on Saturday, Nov. 7 against UConn.
UNC's QB controversy is put to rest
There's no need to sugarcoat it, but Edwards has been far from perfect this season. He threw for 209 yards or fewer in three of four games from Sept. 19 to Oct. 17.
Edwards had back-to-back two-interception games, though thankfully for the Tar Heels, his two interceptions against No. 25 Pittsburgh didn't come back to haunt him.
Overall, Edwards has done a fine job as the signal caller this season, but his breakout game against Miami finally proved why UNC was so keen on landing him in the portal.
