Northwestern landed a commitment from three-star OL Jacob Miller at the end of last week.

Last Friday, Northwestern was focused on trying to clinch a bowl game appearance against Nebraska. But there was also some under-the-radar recruiting news that is important for future seasons.

Three-star offensive lineman Jacob Miller, who previously visited Evanston, cancelled his remaining visits and committed to Northwestern. Miller is a member of the 2026 recruiting class who currently plays high school ball in Missouri.

This particular recruit is notable for a couple reasons.

First, he's already massive. Miller stands at a whopping 6-foot-7 with a weight of 240 lbs. For a high school player, that's an incredibly projectable frame that only stands to get bigger from here. So, there's no potential issue with Miller being able to put on enough size to play Big Ten football. That hurdle has basically already been cleared, which isn't always the case.

Second, as an offensive lineman, Miller is in Northwestern's developmental wheelhouse. The 'Cats can produce offensive line talent, and they continue to back up that statement. Just this year, redshirt freshman Ezomo Oratokhai has been a revelation. He's played along an offensive line unit that has been fantastic and deserves a lot of the credit for the team's five wins.

Also on the line is left tackle Caleb Tiernan, who's likely to be selected in the NFL Draft. He's the latest in a string of successful NU tackles who have made the league like Peter Skoronski and Rashawn Slater.

The bottom line is, there's a lot of evidence to suggest that developing offensive linemen is a strength. And adding three-star talents like Miller is the way a program like Northwestern has to go about that. It has to be able to turn players who aren't the highest recruits in the nation into good, quality starters. Miller will be another opportunity to prove it's among the best at doing so.

According to 247Sports, Miller is the No. 91 offensive tackle and the No. 14 player from his home state.

The site does, however, offer one potential point of concern. It lists Northern Iowa as the only other school to officially submit an offer to Miller. This could mean nothing, but there's always a chance more offers start to roll in and the player gets cold feet.

Northwestern just dealt with a commitment reversal last week when Brayden Reilly decided to go to Clemson -- a school that offered him after he was already committed. It would certainly love to avoid a similar scenario with Miller.
