Former Ohio State head coach Urban Meyer takes a concerning stance on Saturday's game against the Oregon Ducks.
On this week's Triple Option Podcast, former Buckeyes' head coach Urban Meyer said, "You tell me Oregon doesn’t have the roster to come in and beat Ohio State? You’re out of your mind."
A lot is to be made about Oregon's season to this point. It was a near-disaster against Boise State, a true disaster against Oklahoma State, the injury heard around the world against USC, quarterback musical chairs for the past month, and some bad off-field issues.
All of that combined into one has led the Ducks to a 5-3 season that is feeling like it is a lost year.
However, they were given a life raft in the first College Football Playoff rankings this week when they checked in at No. 23. Basically, the committee told them that their hearts are still beating, and if they were to win out, they would have a chance to compete in the postseason.
So, they have life and they have a true sense of belief.
They also have a group of legit players on this roster, and the even more concerning part is that it isn't a pie in the sky. They may have turned the corner last week against Northwestern. The second half against the Wildcats was a legitimate half of football against a good team that could do just enough to springboard them.
From a personnel standpoint, the Buckeyes better have their antennas up when the Ducks take the field.
They discovered something last week that they are absolutely going to utilize against Ohio State. Five different Ducks had carries last week, and they found a spark with freshman Brandon Smith. Smith had eight carries for 82 yards and a touchdown.
On the outside, this has quickly become the Dakorien Moore team. He publicly said that Ducks fans need to expect explosive plays, and he gave them exactly what he said he would. While he is undersized, he brings it all to the table. He is a contested catch threat, a deep ball threat, a speed demon, and he is tough to tackle.
He, alongside Evan Stewart, led the charge on the outside for the Ducks as they try to revive the passing game.
The quarterback is either red hot or ice cold. Dylan Raiola has had one of the most fascinating college football careers to this point, but one thing that is undeniable is that when he is on, he is on.
They have been a major disappointment this year on the defensive side of the ball. They have struggled to get to the quarterback, and they don't take the ball away. However, in the second half last week, they buckled down the hatches and only gave up 6 points to Northwestern.
They have the ingredients to be a really good team and the Buckeyes need to have their sense of urgency up if they want to make sure that they get the job done.
