Ohio State wide receiver Jeremiah Smith adds the Belitnikoff Award Watch List to his list of preseason accolades.
It goes without saying that the Buckeyes' wide receiver Jeremiah Smith is on the watch list for the best wide receiver in the nation heading into next year.
If you've read or listened to any of my content before, you know that I believe that Smith is the best player in college football by a wide margin. Everything that he does, he does at the highest possible level.
He is the fastest player on the field; he has elite quickness, elite strength, elite toughness, and the best hands that you will ever see. He is the complete and total package at the wide receiver position, and we are lucky to have watched his era at Ohio State.
The Belitnikoff Award goes back to 1994, when the first award was handed out to the best wide receiver in college football. Since it's inagural year, there have been just two Buckeyes to win the award.
The first was all the way back in 1995 when Terry Glenn took home the hardware. The second Buckeye was Marvin Harrison Jr. who won the award in 2023.
Smith would be the third Buckeye to get the job done and easily the best of the bunch. Smith is incredible in every sense of the word, and he is looking for it all in 2026.
For the Buckeyes to get to where they want to go, Smith needs to be his amazing self all year long. The guys behind him in the receiver room are unproven but have unlimited potential.
The Buckeyes' offensive line has a lot to prove and, frankly, so does the quarterback Julian Sayin. When there are question marks all around, the one steady piece of the offense will be leaned on and leaned on heavily, at least at the start of the year.
Unfortunately for the Buckeyes, they get one week of a warm-up before they go toe-to-toe with the Texas Longhorns in one of the biggest games of the season.
It doesn't get any easier for Ohio State after that, as they have one of the hardest Big Ten schedules in the conference. Ohio State will have to earn it week after week, and to get it done, Smith is going to have to be the best player in the country.
If he lives up to all the hype, not only will he collect all of the individual awards, but he will add another national Championship to his name.
Jeremiah Smith is already the best wide receiver in the history of Ohio State and one more really good year will solidify him as one of the best to ever play college football.
