The Sooners beat out several Power 4 programs for the versatile Texas playmaker, securing a high-IQ two-way standout projected to bolster Brent Venables' secondary as a safety
The Oklahoma Sooners picked up another Texas prospect for the 2027 class as three-star athlete Jaiden Fields from Hutto announced his commitment.
Fields, a legit two-way player, chose OU over a long list of solid offers that included Stanford, TCU, Texas A&M, Arizona State, Baylor, Cal, Colorado, Houston, Iowa State, Kansas State, Oklahoma State, North Carolina, Texas Tech, and several others.
That’s a pretty impressive offer sheet for a three-star, showing that a lot of programs saw real potential in him.
In his commitment message via Hayes Fawcett, Fields said: “Small actions, repeated consistently, create results that once seemed impossible.”
Fields has been productive on both sides of the ball. As a sophomore in 2024, he earned Texas District 25-6A Offensive Newcomer of the Year honors after catching 56 passes for 832 yards and 10 touchdowns. He also added a 21-yard rushing TD, 22 tackles, and a punt return touchdown on special teams.
In 2025, he took it up another level — posting 89 catches for 1,342 yards and 18 touchdowns on offense, while racking up 48 tackles, 2 TFLs, 3 pass breakups, 3 fumble recoveries, 2 interceptions, and a defensive touchdown on the other side.
While Fields has shown he can play wide receiver at a high level, Oklahoma is expected to develop him as a safety. At around 6-foot and with his athleticism and football IQ, he has the tools to be a rangy, physical defensive back who can cover ground and come up and hit.
This commitment brings Oklahoma’s 2027 class to 27 total commits. Even with some movement in the rankings over the past few months, the Sooners are still sitting strong with a solid mix of blue-chip talent and depth pieces.
Adding another versatile athlete from the state of Texas is always a good get for Venables and staff.
Jaiden Fields feels like one of those guys who could really develop once he gets on campus. He’s already shown he can produce on both sides of the ball, and now he’ll have the chance to focus on one position under good coaching in a program that develops defensive backs well.
His work ethic quote looks like someone who is going to fit the culture in Norman.
The class still has some room to grow before the early signing period, but landing a kid like Fields who had Power conference options and chose OU says something about where the program stands right now.
