The Oregon Ducks and head coach Dan Lanning have recently made headlines within the 2027 recruiting class.
Earlier this month, Lanning landed a total of three commits for his upcoming recruiting class, with three-star offensive tackle Drew Fielder and three-star linebacker Sam Ngata announcing their decisions on Feb 1.
In addition to the three-star prospects, the Ducks also managed to secure a commitment from four-star running back CaDarius McMiller last week.
Now, the question lingering on the minds of Oregon fans is who will be Lanning’s next commitment in the 2027 recruiting class?
While it is still early in the process, there is one name that could be next in line to join the Ducks’ incredible class: four-star quarterback Will Mencl.

The Chandler, AZ, native is currently a top-five prospect in the state of Arizona, as well as the No. 15-ranked quarterback in the 2027 class, according to 247Sports’ Rankings. The talented playmaker is coming off an appearance at the 2026 Navy All-American Bowl last month, which has helped his stock grow to kick off the new year.
At 6-foot-3, 200 lbs., Mencl may have a small stature for a future college quarterback, but it’s clear that he possesses a skill set to compete at the highest level of college football. During his junior season at Chandler High School in 2025, Mencl threw for 3,815 passing yards and 33 touchdowns, while also completing 70 percent of his attempts.
On top of his success through the air, Mencl also displayed his dual-threat ability last year, as he rushed for an impressive 741 rushing yards and 17 touchdowns on 118 carries. His ability to be a force in both the passing and running game will easily translate to the college level, especially given how well current quarterback Dante Moore performed in 2025.
However, the Ducks are not the only big-time program in pursuit of the elite quarterback. This year, Mencl has received offers from the Penn State Nittany Lions and the Miami Hurricanes, as his stock within the 2027 recruiting class continues to grow.
Luckily for Lanning and the program, Mencl already took an unofficial visit to Eugene back in November of 2025. Oregon’s early pursuit of the under-the-radar prospect could help the team’s efforts in landing him, as the coaching staff continues to build a relationship with Mencl heading into the 2026 season.
