The Oregon Ducks and head coach Dan Lanning could continue their dominant run in the 2027 recruiting class with this four-star tight end.

After a successful Spring Game this past weekend, the Oregon Ducks and head coach Dan Lanning will now begin to shift their focus towards the 2027 recruiting class.

Looking at the Ducks’ current commits in the 2027 cycle, the program is widely considered to possess a top-five class, thanks to the 11 commits within the class. The group includes a total of 10 four-stars, with quarterback Will Mencl being the latest prospect to announce his commitment to Oregon.

However, Lanning and the coaching staff’s incredible run on the recruiting trail could continue into the summer, as a talented offensive playmaker remains on the program’s radar heading into the month of May.

According to Rivals’ Hayes Fawcett on Thursday afternoon, 2027 four-star tight end Anthony Cartwright is down to his top five schools, with the Ducks being featured in the mix.

Could Oregon Land Cartwright?

Cartwright, residing in the state of Michigan, is one of the most intriguing prospects in the 2027 recruiting class, as he is the No. 20 tight end in the class, per 247Sports’ Composite.

Standing at a stout 6-foot-5, 235 lbs., the highly-touted prospect already possesses a unique frame that will allow him to excel at the college level. This, along with his raw athletic traits, makes him a versatile threat as both a blocker and a pass-catching weapon. With how well Lanning and the Ducks have done at developing top-tier tight ends, such as 2025 second-round pick Terrance Ferguson and 2026 first-round pick Kenyon Sadiq, it’s clear that Cartwright would be a perfect fit for the Ducks.

Unfortunately for the Ducks, there are multiple big-time programs that are actively pursuing Cartwright, including two fellow Big 10 Conference members in the Ohio State Buckeyes and the Michigan Wolverines. And despite Oregon offering the young talent back in 2025, both Ohio State and Michigan were two of the first schools to target Cartwright.

Luckily for fans, the Ducks still have their eyes set on what would be the team’s first tight end commit in the 2027 class. Cartwright is set to take an official visit to the program on Jun 19, following his official visit to the Miami Hurricanes. Lanning and company will have to make a massive run for the star offensive weapon in June, as he will be announcing his commitment at the end of the month.
