That matters as SMU continues trying to turn momentum into muscle across its athletic department.

Brown arrives after a strong run with the Gamecocks, where she worked in marketing and most recently served as Senior Director of Marketing.

Her body of work carries real weight because she wasn’t just working behind the scenes.

She helped drive the gameday experience for South Carolina women’s basketball under Hall of Fame coach Dawn Staley, one of the most visible and successful programs in the country.

During Brown’s time tied to that program, South Carolina led the nation in attendance in multiple seasons.

Her work touched nearly every fan-facing part of the operation, including in-venue experience, digital marketing, advertising, social media, community engagement and major celebration events.

That’s exactly the kind of background SMU is betting on.

Brown also helped coordinate NCAA championship celebration parades with City of Columbia leadership in 2022 and 2024, giving her experience turning winning moments into citywide energy.

She also worked South Carolina football games from 2021-25 as the on-field contact, managing game presentations and promotions.

Her event background includes major projects such as an exhibition featuring the Las Vegas Aces and the Puerto Rico National Team, plus a Paris Sendoff preseason event with ESPN before South Carolina women’s basketball traveled to Paris.

Earlier in Columbia, she handled marketing duties for volleyball and softball as well.

Before South Carolina, Brown made stops at Texas A&M, Yale, Boise State and LSU, where she began as a student assistant.

Academically, she brings serious credentials too, including a Doctor of Education degree from Baylor, a master’s from Boise State and a bachelor’s from LSU.

For SMU, this seems like more than a staff hire.

It feels like a statement that the Mustangs want their fan experience to match their ambition.
