SMU women’s tennis star Amelie Van Impe swept ACC weekly honors after two ranked singles wins and another perfect weekend in doubles.

DALLAS - SMU women’s tennis is heading into the ACC Championships with plenty of momentum, and freshman Amelie Van Impe is a big reason why.

The Mustangs' standout was named both ACC Player of the Week and ACC Freshman of the Week after a dominant closing weekend to the regular season, continuing one of the best debut campaigns in the conference.

For Van Impe, it’s becoming familiar territory. This is the second time this spring that the SMU freshman has swept both weekly ACC honors in the same week.

It also marks her fourth Freshman of the Week selection and second Player of the Week award, further confirming her place as one of the league’s most impactful newcomers.

Van Impe delivered in a huge way against elite competition. She opened the weekend by rolling past No. 13 Berta Passola Folch of Cal in straight sets, 6-2, 6-2, then followed it by beating No. 32 Monika Ekstrand of Stanford, 6-4, 7-6 (7-3), in the regular-season finale.

Those wins pushed her record against ranked singles opponents to 4-2 this season.

The Belgium native has now won six straight singles matches and closed the regular season at 12-3 overall, including a strong 7-2 mark in ACC play.

She was just as sharp in doubles, adding two more victories over Cal and Stanford from the top court.

Her latest surge also boosted her to No. 27 in the ITA singles rankings, the highest spot she’s reached this season.

Now the focus shifts to postseason play. SMU, ranked No. 25 nationally and seeded eighth in the ACC Championships, opens tournament action Thursday in Cary, North Carolina.

With Van Impe playing this kind of tennis, the Mustangs will feel like a dangerous team nobody wants to draw.
