SMU track and field will compete at the Texas Relays, Stanford Invitational and Bobcat Invitational in a key early outdoor weekend across Texas and California.

SMU track and field is spreading out for one of its busiest weekends of the 2026 outdoor season, with the Mustangs set to compete at three different meets across Texas and California.

It’s an important early test for SMU as the team builds on a strong outdoor opener and looks to keep that momentum going against deeper competition.

The biggest storyline this weekend is the split schedule. SMU distance runners are headed west for the Stanford Invitational, a meet that often brings together elite distance talent and fast times.

Back in Texas, the Mustangs’ sprinters, jumpers and multi-event athletes will be divided between the Texas Relays in Austin and the Bobcat Invitational in San Marcos.

That setup gives SMU track and field multiple chances to make progress in a short window. The Texas meets begin Thursday and run through Saturday, while the Stanford Invitational starts Friday and wraps up Saturday.

With athletes competing in three different environments, the weekend should offer a clear look at where SMU stands early in the outdoor campaign.

The Mustangs are coming off a promising first weekend of the season at the TCU Alumni Invitational in March.

That meet saw several SMU athletes put their names into the program record book, giving the team an encouraging foundation as the outdoor schedule begins to heat up.

Now the challenge is backing that up against strong fields and continuing to post marks that matter later in the spring.

For SMU, this weekend is about more than travel and logistics. It’s a chance to build consistency, sharpen event groups and keep chasing qualifying-level performances before the calendar gets even tougher.

With the roster split between high-profile meets and plenty of opportunities on the table, the Mustangs have a real shot to make noise in several places at once.

This is still early in the outdoor season, but for SMU track and field, it’s a weekend that could set the tone for what comes next.
