Stanford lands its biggest recruiting win of the Pritchard era as four-star tight end Ben Kolar picks the Cardinal over Oklahoma, Tennessee and a host of other Power Four programs
Stanford keeps cooking in the recruiting game. On Tuesday, June 2, the Cardinal added yet another big-name player to their 2027 recruiting class, and this time, it may very well be the biggest signing of the Tavita Pritchard era to date.
Despite receiving a ton of interest from prominent Division I schools, tight end Ben Kolar has decided to take his talents to The Farm.
A four-star recruit, Kolar's high school career at Norman North in Oklahoma has been a dominant one. He burst onto the scene as a junior with 44 catches for 622 yards and eight touchdowns in only nine games, leading to him receiving over 30 offers from college around the country.
Kolar had offers from programs like Oklahoma, Tennessee, Auburn, Miami, and Michigan, but opted to go with the rebuilding Cardinal after taking an official visit on May 29.
Standing at 6-foot-3 and weighing 225 pounds, Kolar is on the lighter side for a tight end but his play style more than makes up for it. While he showcased his elite pass-catching skills with his strong junior year, Kolar is also extremely physical and has no problems putting in the work in the trenches.
For a Stanford team that needs its run game to take a step up, Kolar fits the mold perfectly.
But one thing that really attracted Kolar to Stanford was its 'Tight End U' reputation. Stanford has developed several tight ends into prominent NFL stars including Zach Ertz, Dalton Schultz and Austin Hooper, with Sam Roush entering his rookie year, Kolar wants to join that list and is confident that Stanford's staff can do that for him.
After meeting some of those former players, he quickly bought in.
"The visit went really well. I really enjoyed it, and I had a great time with the current players," Kolar told Rivals. "The alumni they brought back were impressive. I love their history in consistently producing NFL tight ends."
Kolar is the second tight end that the Cardinal have signed to their 2027 class, joining three-star Jude Chamberlain. Given how highly touted he was and how high of a ceiling he has, expect Kolar to fight for immediate playing time and carve out a significant role for himself offensively right out of the gate.
Stanford has landed eight commitments for that class already, and getting potential players to The Farm has been working well in securing those commitments from players on the spot. This looks to already be a loaded class.
