From QB Davis Warren to DB Leroy Bryant, the Cardinal's portal additions bring experience and unfinished business to The Farm.

In less than a week, the Stanford Cardinal will begin training camp and start preparing for what will be a very tough 2026 campaign. Eager to return to the national spotlight after multiple losing seasons, Stanford enters the year with high urgency to win on The Farm.

This offseason, the program underwent extensive change in order to bring success back to the gridiron at Stanford, including signing multiple key additions from the transfer portal.

Year in and year out, programs utilize the portal to find immediate solutions in areas of need. In recent seasons, while the Cardinal have managed to land some talent from the portal, the output has not provided the boost that the program has needed.

But this year things could change, with a transfer portal class full of experienced and talented players ready to firmly cement themselves as stars in the world of college football.

Headlined by former Michigan quarterback Davis Warren, the Cardinal's portal class is full of guys who have shown flashes of their talent but have yet to take that next step forward. Warren, for example, spent five seasons at Michigan but was only the primary starter in 2024, throwing seven touchdowns and nine interceptions in nine games.

Now, expected to start at Stanford, the Cardinal get a seasoned veteran with experience in high-leverage games who is ready to break out and dominate the competition.

The Cardinal also landed wide receivers Carter Shaw and Nico Brown in the portal, two guys who are in the running for big roles right out of the gate this year.

Brown, an FCS All-American and Ivy League first team selection, recorded over 1,000 receiving yards in his first season with significant playing time at Yale. Now, he joins the Power Four as an impact player for the new-look offense.

Shaw, while having limited experience, is the son of former Stanford coach David Shaw and is very familiar with the culture of Stanford football. This will make the adjustment to Stanford easier and should help him earn a role on the field. With only two career catches, Shaw has a clean slate at Stanford and is ready to burst onto the scene.

On the offensive line, the Cardinal made sure to bolster their depth, especially with inconsistent play and injuries hampering them in recent seasons.

Stanford also added size and physicality up front, signing offensive tackle Dara Adeyemi from Bucknell and interior lineman Aidan Kilstrom from Harvard. Both are expected to open running lanes for an offense chasing its first 1,000-yard rusher since 2017.

Defensively, the biggest addition for the Cardinal is defensive back Leroy Bryant. A member of the Washington Huskies for three seasons who featured in 25 regular season games, Bryant brings a lot of experience to The Farm.

He was unable to break out as a bona fide starter and true star, but now Bryant comes to Stanford as a man on a mission. After losing Collin Wright to the NFL, the Cardinal need a guy to replace that lost production. Bryant could be the answer — in his last game on the field, he snagged two interceptions in the Bucked Up LA Bowl against Boise State.

Overall, this year's transfer class could prove vital early on as Stanford's newcomers find their footing and look to make a bigger impact as the season progresses. In an era where a lot of questions still need answering, the success of these transfer additions could go a long way.
