The Syracuse University football program picked up another big commit from the transfer portal on Monday, securing word from wide receiver Matthew Outten that he will be joining the Orange in 2026.
On3 had the information on social media.
Before we dig deeper on Outten, let's take a look at the impact of the portal on the Orange so far.

Yasin Willis, RB (Kansas)
Kaylib Singelton, DB (Mississippi State)
Ibn McDaniels, DB (Penn State)
Joshua Miller, OL (Austin Peay)
Rickie Collins, QB (Kennesaw State)
Jahide Lesaine Jr., LB (Monmouth)
Luke Carney, QB (Houston)
A Virginia native, Outten did not appear in a game for the Nittany Lions in 2025. As a result, he'll have four years of eligibility left. Coming out of high school, Outten chose Penn State over Syracuse, Virginia Tech and Maryland, so the prior recruiting connection clearly helped facilitate a deal here.
The following comes from his previous Penn State player bio:
Played at I.C. Norcom High School for head coach Anthony Hawkins…Served as a team captain as a senior…Earned Team MVP honors as a junior and senior…As a junior, recorded 12 touchdowns and one interception…Rated as a four-star prospect by 247Sports and ESPN and a three-star prospect by On3 and Rivals…Tabbed as the No. 173 overall prospect, No. 10 athlete and No. prospect in Virginia in the class by 247Sports…Recognized as the No. 242 overall prospect, No. 14 athlete and No. 7 prospect in Virginia by ESPN…Ranked as the No. 14 prospect in the state by On3…

Syracuse has experienced some turmoil at wideout this offseason, with Darrell Gill Jr., Emanuel Ross and Johntay Cook each hitting the transfer portal. However, the additions of Outten, Moore and Weaver have added new talents into the mix. And that doesn't even include five-star freshman Calvin Russell, who is one of the top recruits in Syracuse history.
Syracuse has done a good job finding players in the portal who have established themselves at other places. In the case of Outten and Moore, SU is getting two relatively unknown players who have plenty of potential. It's an interesting dichotomy.
The SU men's basketball team will play at home on Tuesday night (9 p.m. ET) against Florida State. Our own Tom Goslowski will be there in person, so follow him on social media @TomGozz.
