Now-former Syracuse University quarterback Luke Carney has reportedly found a new home at the University of Houston, according to a post from Brent Axe of Syracuse.com on social media.
Source confirms that former (emojis redacted) QB Luke Carney has committed to the University of Houston out of the transfer portal. Little closer to home for the Mesquite, Texas native.
We learned that Carney was transferring out of Syracuse back on Dec. 17, 2025.
A Texas native, Carney appeared in four games for the Orange, going just 5-of-7 for 22 yards. He also ran 10 times for 28 yards and he picked up a rushing touchdown. He played against Notre Dame in a 70-7 loss, and he saw action against North Carolina.
He'll have all four years of eligibility remaining.
Syracuse went into the 2026 season with Steve Angeli as the starter and promptly began the campaign at 3-1, but Angeli was injured in that fourth game of the season, and the Orange lost eight consecutive games to end the campaign at 3-9.
Angeli is recovering from the Torn Achilles and is expected to be the starter again in 2026.
In addition to losing Carney, Syracuse has also lost Rickie Collins, who officially transferred to Kennesaw State last week.
In an ironic twist, Kennesaw State quarterback Amari Odom just transferred to the Orange and could compete with Angeli for time. Hopefully, either Odom or Angeli will provide Syracuse with an inexperienced backup should injury strike the starter again. That's something Syracuse did not have when Angeli went down.
