Juan Castillo took the offensive line job after the season ended.

Brady Farkas on the potential loss of Juan Castillo.

Earlier this offseason, Syracuse University football coach Fran Brown announced the hiring of new offensive line coach Juan Castillo.

Now, it looks like he may lose Castillo before he ever coaches a game for the Orange.

Per Art Stapleton, who covers the New York Giants:

Sounds like Juan Castillo strongly in play to become Giants offensive line coach, per sources.

Was with John Harbaugh in BAL and served as Matt Nagy's OL coach when they were together in CHI.

Would also reunite with asst OL coach Grant Newsome - together at Michigan

Harbaugh is the new head coach of the Giants, taking over for the recently fired Brian Daboll.

The Castillo file

Castillo played his college football at Texas A&M-Kingsville and also coached there on two separate occasions. Since departing his alma mater before the 1995 season, he's been with the Philadelphia Eagles (offensive assistant, tight ends coach, offensive line coach, defensive coordinator), Baltimore Ravens (run game coordinator, offensive line coach), Buffalo Bills (same roles), Michigan (offensive analyst), Chicago Bears (offensive line coach), Washington Commanders (tight ends coach, run game coordinator), UCLA and Michigan again.

Castillo is 72 years old, so it's unclear how much longer he'll want to coach anywhere. If he aspires to get back to the NFL, this may be his best chance.

What it would mean for Syracuse

Well, it would obviously be a blow to the Orange, who have worked hard to bring on a new group of coaches for 2026. In addition to Castillo, the team hired Vince Kehres as its defensive coordinator, as well as several other exciting hires, including Super Bowl winning quarterbacks coach Sean Ryan.

--The Orange men's basketball team will travel to No. 18 Virginia on Saturday (12 p.m. ET) on the heels of a 10-point loss against North Carolina. SU was down by as many as 32 and drew the ire of former star Carmelo Anthony apparently.
