According to a new report from Syracuse Insider Mike McAllister, the Orange football team has secured another defensive commitment from the transfer portal.
Per McAllister on social media:
BREAKING: Former Wisconsin & Toledo DB Amare Snowden has committed to Syracuse, he announced on his instagram page. The former four star prospect is expected to play safety for the Orange and has two years of eligibility left
Listed at 6'4, Snowden certainly has the size and physicality to play in the ACC. He did not appear in a game at Toledo but he did play those two seasons at Wisconsin. He played in just two games, so he certainly comes to Syracuse without much experience. A Michigan native, he was a first-team All-State player in high school.
Even though Snowden did not play at Toledo, he does have a relationship with new Syracuse defensive coordinator Vince Kehres, who was the prior defensive coordinator at Toledo. Those relationships will help ease the transition to Syracuse and he can also be a sounding board for SU players with regards to Kehres' scheme, system and verbage.
Snowden is the second former Toledo player that the Orange have gotten in the portal, joining linebacker Chris D'Appolonia.

We noted earlier this week that Syracuse seems to be prioritizing proven players in the portal, even if that means grabbing players from smaller schools at lower levels. However, Snowden is the opposite of that. He's more of an upside play, with Fran Brown's coaching staff banking on his potential, skillset and body type.
The Syracuse women's basketball team will take on Virginia on Sunday afternoon at 2 p.m. ET. The Orange are 13-3 overall but 2-2 inside league play.
