Gerry McNamara is working on bringing in new players, but he's also working on retaining some of the ones he already had.

New Syracuse men's basketball coach Gerry McNamara is hard at work in the transfer portal, bringing in a pair of new players from his former program already this week.

Tasman Goodrick and Gavin Doty are joining McNamara from Siena, but the new head man is also working to retain certain players from last year's roster.

While Naithan George, Donnie Freeman, Luke Fennell and Tyler Betsey are in the portal and waiting to leave Central New York, Kiyan Anthony is ready to come back, as is forward Sadiq White Jr. White made his announcement on social media on Wednesday, with the official SU basketball account putting out the information as well.

About White

An uber-athletic forward, White hails from Charlotte, N.C. A rising sophomore, he averaged 6.1 ppg while shooting 55 percent from the floor and 36.8 percent from three-point range in a limited sample size this season. He appeared in 31 of 32 games as Syracuse went 15-17.

How things are fitting together

At this moment, Syracuse has the makings of an athletic and talented starting five. While these roles are certainly subject to change, Goodrick could be the center with White (6'9) as the power forward. Anthony could be the small forward and Doty the shooting guard.

McNamara needs to find a point guard to replace George, and if you put that together, there's some nice pieces for the Orange.

Syracuse hasn't been to the NCAA Tournament in the last five years while McNamara led Siena to the NCAA Tournament this past season.

--With the 2025-26 season behind us, the oddsmakers have released their feelings for the next season already. Of course, until rosters are filled out, it's a futile exercise, but it's still interesting to see what people think about Syracuse and McNamara at this time.

--The SU football team concludes its spring season on Saturday when it hosts its annual spring game at the JMA Wireless Dome. Goslowski will be there. It's unclear if quarterback Steve Angeli, recovering from a torn Achilles, will play. He's been a participant in spring practice, but has continued to move slowly.

Earlier this spring, head coach Fran Brown indicated that he's the leader in the clubhouse for the starting quarterback job, though there's plenty of competition. The team brought in Danny Lauter, Amari Odom and Malachi Nelson from the transfer portal.
