Brittney Sykes is headed to the Toronto Tempo in 2026.

Former Syracuse women's basketball player Brittney Sykes signed a free agent contract with the WNBA's expansion Toronto Tempo on Saturday, becoming a part of WNBA history in the process.

Per Alexa Phillippou of ESPN on social media:

Breaking: The Toronto Tempo have agreed to terms with guards Marina Mabrey and Brittney Sykes, per their agent Marcus Crenshaw of The FAM Sports Agency

With each agreeing to two-year max contracts, they are the first known million dollar backcourt pairing. Big splash for Toronto

The WNBA players fought hard for more opportunities in the latest round of collective bargaining negotiations, and this appears to be part of the fruits of that labor.

--The transfer portal is spinning for the Syracuse men's basketball team under new head coach Gerry McNamara. The Orange are set to lose several key players off last year's roster, including Donnie Freeman, Naithan George and Tyler Betsey. At this point, Syracuse has secured three players from the portal, including Fulton, N.Y. native Gavin Doty. Syracuse also just landed a transfer guard from McNeese State, who our own Tom Goslowski wrote about.

--The Syracuse women officially lost Sophie Burrows to the portal, as she signed with North Carolina.

--The Syracuse football team, coming off a 3-9 season in 2025, took the field for the first time in 2026 on Saturday night for the annual spring football game. Goslowski was there and wrote his takeaways from the contest, although it's hard to fully gauge where the Orange are at right now because projected starting quarterback Steve Angeli didn't play. Neither did six top defensive players, including standout DB Demetres Samuel Jr.
