TCU will play Arkansas State before a packed Amon G. Carter Stadium on Saturday night as Family Weekend brings another sellout crowd to Fort Worth.
FORT WORTH - TCU football will have a full house Saturday night.
The Horned Frogs announced that their 7 p.m. Family Weekend matchup against Arkansas State is officially sold out, setting up another packed night at Amon G. Carter Stadium as TCU tries to build momentum before Big 12 play begins.
The game will be TCU’s second straight home night contest after last week’s 63-7 rout of Grambling State, a performance that evened the Frogs’ record at 1-1.
Quarterback Jaden Craig has thrown for 566 yards through two games, while running back Jeremy Payne has rushed for 221 yards and wide receiver Ed Small leads the team with 166 receiving yards.
Fans will also get another look at the stadium’s new LED lighting package and other game-day upgrades that debuted during the home opener.
TCU is encouraging fans to wear purple as part of the Family Weekend atmosphere.
The sellout adds another layer to a matchup that comes at an important point in the schedule.
The Horned Frogs opened the season with a 15-10 loss to North Carolina in Dublin before responding in dominant fashion against Grambling State.
After Arkansas State, TCU heads to Orlando to open Big 12 play at UCF on Sept. 26.
That makes Saturday more than just another nonconference game.
It’s a chance for Sonny Dykes’ team to clean up lingering issues, continue developing its offense and leave Fort Worth with some confidence before conference games start carrying much bigger consequences.
TCU has history on its side against Arkansas State. The Horned Frogs are 2-0 all-time against the Red Wolves, including a 52-3 victory in 2000 and a 24-21 win in 1999.
Tickets through the primary market are gone, but fans still trying to get inside The Carter can shop through SeatGeek, TCU’s official secondary marketplace.
The atmosphere should be considerably different from a typical September tune-up.
With the stadium sold out, Family Weekend underway and another night game under the lights, TCU has a chance to turn Saturday into something closer to a conference-game environment.
For the Horned Frogs, that may be exactly what they need before the real grind begins.
