TCU baseball stranded 11 runners and couldn’t cash in on scoring chances in a 4-1 road loss to Abilene Christian before hosting Arizona this weekend.
FORT WORTH - TCU baseball had no shortage of opportunities Tuesday night, but the Horned Frogs couldn’t turn traffic on the bases into enough production in a 4-1 loss to Abilene Christian in Abilene.
The Horned Frogs put at least one runner on base in every inning, a stat that usually points to a productive offensive night.
Instead, TCU baseball left 11 runners stranded and managed only one run, wasting multiple chances to climb back into the game.
That inability to deliver in key moments became the story as Abilene Christian used timely hitting and shutdown relief work to hand TCU another frustrating midweek defeat.
Abilene Christian grabbed control early and never really let go.
The Wildcats broke through in the third inning, then added two more runs in the fourth, both coming after TCU had nearly escaped the frame.
Those two-out runs proved especially costly, giving ACU the breathing room it needed while the Frogs kept coming up empty in big spots.
TCU finally got on the board in the fifth when Cole Cramer drove in Colton Griffin, trimming the deficit to 3-1.
Griffin continued his strong season with his seventh multi-hit game, while Cramer extended his hitting streak to nine games. But even that rally felt incomplete.
The Horned Frogs had the bases full with one out and couldn’t do more damage, a theme that followed them most of the night.
The Wildcats added another insurance run in the sixth, and TCU couldn’t answer despite more traffic in the seventh and eighth innings.
A bases-loaded chance slipped away in the seventh, and a double play ended any real hope in the eighth.
Nolan Johnson took the loss after allowing two runs in 3.2 innings while striking out three.
TCU dropped to 20-12 with the defeat and now turns its attention to a home series against Arizona beginning Friday night in Fort Worth.
