TCU is set to face off with Arkansas State on Saturday night and the Horned Frogs are ready to welcome back one of their biggest threats. Meanwhile, an offensive powerhouse will wait at least another week to suit up for the team.
TCU is gearing up to take on Arkansas State on Saturday night in the finale to its non-conference slate, with the Horned Frogs aiming for back-to-back wins.
And the team will welcome back one of its most game-changing pieces after he missed the previous matchup with Grambling State.
Standout safety Jamel Johnson was completely off the injury report for TCU heading into the 7 p.m. showdown from Amon G. Carter Stadium.
It is a huge addition for a Horned Frogs defense that has already shown signs of greatest through the first two weeks of the season, even in the defeat to North Carolina.
Across both games, TCU has allowed only one touchdown to each of its opponents for one of the lowest combined totals at the FBS level.
In his lone appearance this season against the Tar Heels, Johnson tallied five total tackles and he is assuredly looking for more in his home debut.
However, TCU will also remain without one of its key offensive weapons against the RedWolves.
Latest injury updates indicating that wide receiver Jordan Dwyer is going to be sidelined once again in week three, as he awaits to make his debut this season.
Dwyer has been battling a nagging foot injury that has kept him at bay in both of the prior outings for the Horned Frogs.
While Dwyer would undoubtedly give TCU an even greater edge and outlet in the passing attack, the Horned Frogs have seemed to adjust to his absence in the early part of the season.
Following an abysmal showing in Ireland against the Tar Heels to open the year, TCU found its spark against the Tigers last Saturday being led by quarterback Jaden Craig.
Craig lit up the skies over Fort Worth to the tune of nearly 400 passing yards and four touchdowns to three different receivers.
Outside of speculation based on injury reports, head coach Sonny Dykes essentially confirmed the status for both Johnson and Dwyer in his weekly media availability.
"Jordan [Dwyer]...I would say doubtful," Dykes said. "JJ [Johnson] will play," he added.
Facing both positive and negative news for its injury status, TCU will look to continue its upward momentum despite who is suiting up for the Horned Frogs.
With another win to enter conference play, the team would set itself up in prime position to compete in the Big 12 with Johnson bolstering the defense and Dwyer's return undoubtedly coming soon.
