TCU men’s golf opened the NCAA Bryan Regional in third place at 8-under, led by freshman Nathan Miller’s sharp 68.
TCU men’s golf put itself right in the NCAA Championship hunt Monday, opening the NCAA Bryan Regional with an 8-under 280 at Traditions Club.
The Horned Frogs are third after Round 1, sitting safely inside the top-five cut line with a long, pressure-packed Tuesday ahead.
That’s the whole mission at regionals: survive, advance and don’t let the leaderboard eat you alive.
TCU trails only host Texas A&M, which leads at 12 under, and No. 9 North Carolina at 10 under.
The Frogs are one shot ahead of No. 4 Texas and two clear of No. 16 Tennessee, meaning the margin for error is already razor-thin.
Freshman Nathan Miller delivered the round TCU needed. He came out firing with five birdies over his first nine holes and finished with a 4-under 68, tying for fourth individually.
For a freshman in an NCAA regional, that’s not just impressive — that’s fearless.
The Horned Frogs also got two more under-par rounds from Charlie Wylie and Lewis Wright, who both carded 2-under 70s to land in a tie for 10th.
Wright’s day had serious juice early, as he played his first seven holes at 4 under before settling in.
Sam Udovich added a steady even-par 72, tying for 24th, while Jack Beauchamp shot 76.
Now comes the grind. Because of weather concerns, TCU will play both the second and third rounds on Tuesday, starting at 7 a.m. off No. 1.
That makes recovery, patience and depth even more important.

The top five teams, along with the top individual not on an advancing team, will move on to the NCAA Men’s Golf Championship at Omni La Costa Resort & Spa in Carlsbad, California.
After one round, TCU has the position. Tuesday will decide whether the Frogs have the finish.
