TCU men’s golf closed with a strong 11-under round to tie Oklahoma State for fourth at the Mountaineer Invitational as Sam Udovich finished third at 8-under.
TCU men’s golf heads into the postseason with real momentum after a sharp closing push at the Mountaineer Invitational.
The Horned Frogs fired an 11-under 277 in Tuesday’s final round, matching one of the best team scores of the week and climbing into a tie for fourth place with No. 6 Oklahoma State at 9-under overall.
That finish stood out in a loaded field at Pete Dye Golf Club, where Clemson won the tournament at 20-under and both Texas Tech and West Virginia finished at 16-under. For TCU, though, the bigger takeaway was how the group responded late.
After opening with rounds of 292 and 286, the Frogs found another gear in the final 18 holes and looked much more like a team ready to make noise at the Big 12 Championship.
Freshman Sam Udovich once again led the way for TCU men’s golf. Udovich finished third individually at 8-under 208 after posting rounds of 74, 66 and 68.
His final-round 4-under 68 capped off his fourth top-10 finish of the season and continued a terrific freshman campaign.
He finished behind only Oklahoma State’s Preston Stout, who won at 11-under, and Clemson’s Thomas Higgins at 10-under.
Nathan Miller nearly gave TCU another top-20 result, tying for 21st at 1-over 217 after closing with a 71. Jack Beauchamp ended at 3-over 219, while Lewis Wright also carded a 71 and finished at 4-over 220.
One of the best individual storylines came from Charlie Wylie, who delivered a career-best 5-under 67 in a bogey-free round. That surge moved him up 38 spots on the leaderboard into a tie for 39th.
With the Big 12 Championship set for April 27-29 at Prairie Dunes Country Club in Hutchinson, Kansas, TCU now carries a timely boost of confidence into one of the biggest events of its season.
