TCU basketball added 6-6 Latvian guard Ricards Aizpurs, a high-scoring international prospect with major European experience.

TCU basketball just added another intriguing weapon to its 2026-27 roster, and this one comes with serious international scoring buzz.

The Horned Frogs announced the signing of Ricards Aizpurs, a 6-6 guard from Gulbene, Latvia, who spent last season with Star Alliance in Italy.

Aizpurs has been part of the Stella Azzurra program, one of Europe’s respected development pipelines for high-end basketball talent.

During the 2024-25 season, he was a scoring machine in Italian U17 competition, averaging 33.6 points per game.

Even while playing up at the U18 level as a 16-year-old, he still averaged 18 points per game.

Aizpurs continued building his profile this past season at the U19 level, then competed earlier this month for Team Next Gen at the 2026 Adidas Eurocamp in Treviso, Italy.

He also played in the 2026 Basketball Without Borders Global event, which featured 40 top high-school-age prospects from 29 countries and territories.

Aizpurs averaged 8.2 points across five games in that setting.

His international experience doesn’t stop there.

In the summer of 2025, he participated in Basketball Without Borders Europe and earned All-Star Five honors.

He also represented Latvia at the 2024 FIBA U16 EuroBasket, averaging 18.1 points, 3.4 rebounds and 2.4 assists per game.

Aizpurs was also part of the Next Gen team that won the Adidas NextGen EuroLeague Munich Tournament title during the 2024-25 season.

For TCU, this is another swing on size, skill and upside.

A 6-6 guard who can score at multiple levels gives the Frogs a fascinating developmental piece as they reshape the roster.

Aizpurs joins Luke Bamgboye, Sam Fleming, Ryan Hunt, Trent Lincoln, Gavin Murphy, Miloš Šojić, Gavin Sykes and DJ Thomas among TCU’s newcomers.
