TCU pitcher Lance Davis earned D1 Baseball Freshman All-American honors after a dominant rookie season packed with quality starts and shutouts.
TCU baseball didn’t have to wait long to find out Lance Davis was built for the moment.
The freshman right-hander turned his first season in Fort Worth into a full-blown statement, earning Second Team Freshman All-American honors from D1 Baseball after becoming one of the most reliable arms on the Horned Frogs’ staff.
For a young pitcher thrown into a major role in the Big 12, Davis didn’t just survive it - he looked like he belonged.
Davis led TCU with 80 innings pitched and 14 starts, giving the Frogs exactly what every college baseball staff is desperate to find: a freshman who can take the ball, eat innings and not blink when the lights get hot.
He finished 5-3 with a 3.71 ERA, posted eight quality starts and added two complete games, which is no small thing in today’s pitch-count-heavy world.
Davis ranked second on the team with 51 strikeouts and held opposing hitters to a .236 batting average.
That’s the kind of production that gets noticed quickly, especially when it comes from a pitcher still getting his first real taste of college baseball.
His biggest performances were loud ones. Davis earned Big 12 Pitcher and Newcomer of the Week honors twice, first after dealing seven shutout innings against UCF on March 23.
Then he topped that with a complete-game shutout at No. 9 West Virginia on May 18, a road gem that showed he wasn’t scared of ranked competition or hostile environments.
The recognition adds another name to TCU’s growing freshman success story under Kirk Saarloos. Since Saarloos arrived on campus in 2013, 23 Horned Frogs have earned Freshman All-American honors.
Davis is the latest proof that TCU still knows how to identify, develop and unleash young talent. His freshman year wasn’t a warm-up act. It was a warning shot.
