TCU women’s tennis stormed back to beat UCF 4-1, capturing the program’s first Big 12 Tournament championship and punching its NCAA Tournament ticket.
FORT WORTH - TCU women’s tennis made program history Saturday night, rallying past UCF for a 4-1 win to claim its first Big 12 Tournament championship at the USTA National Campus.
The title gives the Horned Frogs a major milestone in an already breakthrough season and locks up their return to the NCAA Tournament for the first time since 2017.
The Frogs didn’t make it easy on themselves. UCF grabbed the doubles point after edging TCU in two tight matches, putting the Knights in front early and forcing the Horned Frogs to answer in singles. That response came fast and never let up.
Freshman Jennifer Jackson sparked the comeback with a dominant 6-3, 6-0 victory over Jade Psonka, finishing a perfect weekend in both doubles and singles play.
Jackson’s all-around performance across the tournament helped earn her Most Outstanding Player honors and gave TCU a steady force whenever it needed one.
From there, TCU’s depth took over. Cayetana Gay continued her excellent dual-match form by beating Lauren Seye 6-4, 6-2, while Cristina Ramos Sierra pushed the Frogs closer to the finish with a 7-5, 6-2 win over Marina Gatell.
That left the spotlight on Raquel Caballero Chica, who delivered the clincher with a statement win at No. 1 singles.
Caballero Chica, ranked No. 81 nationally, knocked off No. 115 Jantje Tilbuerger in straight sets, 6-3, 6-4, to seal the championship and cement her place in TCU history.
Her energy at the top of the lineup has been a constant for the Frogs all season, and it showed again in the biggest moment.
The victory pushes TCU to 20-4 and adds another trophy to the program’s collection, marking its 11th conference title overall.
More importantly, it sends the Horned Frogs back to the NCAA Tournament and gives them serious momentum heading into the postseason selection reveal on April 27.
