Texas A&M baseball returns to Olsen Field at Blue Bell Park this weekend, riding serious momentum.
The No. 24 Aggies welcome Penn to College Station for a three-game series beginning Friday night, looking to build on a scorching 4-0 start that has already turned heads across college baseball.
Michael Earley’s club opened the season with a dominant sweep of Tennessee Tech, piling up 45 runs in the process - the program’s highest-scoring Opening Weekend since 2017. The Aggies followed that with an 8-3 midweek victory over Texas A&M-Corpus Christi, flashing both depth and power throughout the lineup.
Through four games, Texas A&M leads the nation in slugging percentage at a blistering .759 clip. The Aggies also rank among the top 10 nationally in batting average (.394), on-base percentage (.520), home runs (12) and runs per game (13.3). In short, the Maroon & White are crushing the baseball.
Caden Sorrell has been the centerpiece of that offensive explosion.
The Highland Village native earned SEC Player of the Week honors after going 9-for-15 with three home runs, 10 RBI and seven runs scored during Opening Weekend. He added two stolen bases for good measure. Sorrell’s combination of power and speed has helped ignite an offense that looks relentless from top to bottom.
The youth movement has also made an immediate impact.
True freshmen Boston Kellner and Jorian Wilson each launched their first collegiate home runs in the midweek win, while Nico Partida connected for his second long ball of the young season.
On the mound, the Aggies have been equally sharp. Shane Sdao, Weston Moss and Aiden Sims are scheduled to start against Penn after each earned wins during Opening Weekend.
As a staff, Texas A&M ranks first nationally in strikeout-to-walk ratio (8.20) and walks allowed per nine innings (1.32), underscoring impressive command early in the year.
Penn arrives seeking payback history on its side after taking two of three from the Aggies in 2022. But this Texas A&M team looks different ... explosive at the plate, efficient on the mound and brimming with confidence.
If the Aggies continue this pace, Olsen Field could be the site of another offensive showcase this weekend.
