Texas A&M linebacker Daymion Sanford had surgery after a Maroon & White Game injury and could miss part of the 2026 season.
Texas A&M football may be without one of its defensive leaders for part of the 2026 season.
Aggies senior linebacker Daymion Sanford underwent surgery this week to repair a lower-body injury, according to Matt Zenitz of CBS Sports. Sanford suffered the injury during Texas A&M’s Maroon & White Game and had to be carted off the field with an air cast on his leg.
The early outlook is a tough one for Texas A&M. Sanford is expected to miss at least part of the upcoming season, which would leave a major hole in the Aggies’ linebacker rotation.
Sanford was coming off the best season of his college career. As a junior, the Katy, Texas, native posted 57 tackles, 9.5 tackles for loss, 3.5 sacks, one interception, three pass breakups, two forced fumbles and a fumble recovery.
He started the final 10 games and was expected to be one of the central voices of the Aggies’ defense this fall.
That leadership role had already become official. Sanford was recently named a team captain after a strong spring, making the timing of the injury even more frustrating for Texas A&M.
His development has been steady throughout his career. Sanford played in all 13 games as a freshman in 2023, appeared in all 13 games again as a sophomore and made his first three starts that season.
Over 39 career games, he has totaled 94 tackles, 13 tackles for loss, 4.5 sacks, one interception and seven pass breakups.

Now the Aggies will need other linebackers to step forward while Sanford recovers. His production, experience and physical presence won’t be easy to replace.
For Texas A&M, the hope is that Sanford can return during the season. Until then, his absence becomes one of the defense’s biggest early challenges.
