Texas A&M safety Dalton Brooks is becoming a 2027 NFL Draft name to watch after a breakout season under Mike Elko.
Texas A&M safety Dalton Brooks is starting to generate real 2027 NFL Draft buzz, adding another name to an Aggies roster already loaded with pro talent.
Quarterback Marcel Reed gets plenty of national attention, while wide receiver Mario Craver, defensive tackle DJ Hicks and Northwestern transfer edge Anto Saka are viewed as possible first-round talents.

But Brooks is now emerging as one of Texas A&M’s most intriguing defensive prospects.
According to Texas A&M beat writer Tony Catalina, multiple NFL personnel members have pointed to Brooks as a fast-rising defender because of his versatility and athletic profile.
Brooks is coming off a strong 2025 season in Mike Elko’s defense. The senior safety posted a career-high 62 tackles, added four sacks and grabbed one interception while becoming one of the Aggies’ most dependable starters.
His value goes beyond the stat sheet. Elko used Brooks in multiple roles, especially on third down, where his speed allowed him to function as an extra pass rusher.
At times, Brooks became the fifth or sixth man attacking the quarterback, giving Texas A&M more flexibility in pressure packages.
The next step is consistency as a tackler. If Brooks cleans that up, his combination of production, experience and defensive versatility could push him even higher on draft boards.
Texas A&M’s safety room should also help. Colorado transfer Tawfiq Byard joins the rotation after not allowing a passing touchdown in more than 500 snaps, giving the Aggies even more depth on the back end.
After a program-record 10 players were selected in the 2026 NFL Draft, Texas A&M is trying to reload quickly. With 17 transfers and 26 incoming signees joining a strong returning core, Brooks could become one of the key veteran leaders in College Station.
