Former Texas A&M linebacker Scooby Williams is headed to Minnesota after going undrafted, giving the Vikings a developmental SEC defender.
Former Texas A&M linebacker Scooby Williams didn’t hear his name called during the 2026 NFL Draft, but his professional football opportunity arrived quickly.
Williams has signed with the Minnesota Vikings as an undrafted free agent, giving the former Aggies defender a chance to compete in training camp and develop inside one of the NFL’s more respected defensive setups.

The Birmingham, Alabama native arrived in college football as a 4-star recruit and started his career at Florida. His best season with the Gators came as a junior, when he flashed the disruptive traits that made him an intriguing linebacker prospect.
Williams ranked second in the SEC in forced fumbles, showing he could attack the ball, handle run fits and create problems near the line of scrimmage.
After Mike Elko took over at Texas A&M, Williams transferred to College Station and became part of a tough Aggies linebacker room alongside Taurean York.
He quickly carved out a role and earned Defensive Newcomer of the Year honors at Texas A&M’s team award banquet after a productive first season with the program.
His final college season didn’t go exactly as planned. Williams suffered an injury midway through the 2025 campaign and missed six games, which likely hurt his draft momentum. Still, his SEC experience, physical style and playmaking flashes were enough for Minnesota to take a post-draft swing.
The Vikings don’t need Williams to become an immediate starter. Their linebacker group is already viewed as one of the stronger units on the roster, with Vikings Wire giving the position an A grade.

That makes Minnesota a strong landing spot for a young defender who can learn, contribute on special teams and push for a depth role.
For Williams, the path is simple now: get healthy, make plays in camp and prove he belongs.
