Former Texas A&M defensive lineman DeMarvin Leal is back on the market after the Giants released him following the NFL Draft.
Former Texas A&M standout DeMarvin Leal is looking for his next NFL opportunity after the New York Giants released the defensive lineman over the weekend.
Leal, a former Aggies star and 2022 third-round pick by the Pittsburgh Steelers, had signed a futures contract with New York earlier this offseason.
The move gave him a chance to reset his career with a Giants defensive line room that already had several players fighting for roster spots.
That competition only got tighter after the 2026 NFL Draft.
New York added defensive tackle Bobby Jamison-Travis in the sixth round, then continued building depth around the position.
The Giants also brought in Sam Roberts and Marlon Tuipulotu in free agency, while Roy Robertson-Harris, Darius Alexander and Elijah Chatman remain part of the mix up front.
For Leal, the timing makes the release sting. He was trying to carve out a role after his time in Pittsburgh ended in January. During his Steelers tenure, Leal appeared in 32 games and totaled 35 tackles with one sack.
At Texas A&M, Leal was one of the most talented defensive linemen in the SEC, flashing the versatility that made him such an intriguing NFL prospect. He could line up in multiple spots, disrupt against the run and create pressure from the interior or edge.
That skill set is still what could make him appealing to another team looking for defensive line depth before training camp.

Leal is only 25, and defensive linemen with SEC pedigree and NFL experience usually get more than one chance. The question now is whether his next stop comes quickly or if he has to wait until injuries and roster reshuffling open a door later this offseason.
Either way, the former Aggie is back on the market.
