Texas A&M added Northwestern transfer Anto Saka to boost its pass rush, and Mike Elko’s defense may unlock the former Freaks List edge at last.
Texas A&M football may have found one of its most intriguing transfer portal additions in Anto Saka, a former Northwestern edge rusher who arrives in College Station with NFL upside and a lot to prove.
The Texas A&M transfer portal haul was already loaded, but Saka brings the kind of size, burst and raw power that could make him a breakout name in the Aggies defense this season.
At 6-4 and 255 pounds, Saka looks every bit like an SEC pass rusher. He was even named to Bruce Feldman’s Freaks List before the 2025 season, a nod to his rare physical tools.
But the production at Northwestern never fully matched the talent. In nine games last year, Saka posted 13 tackles and three sacks, numbers that don’t jump off the page.
Still, the deeper evaluation tells a different story.
According to Pro Football Focus, Saka earned an 82.5 pass-rush grade in 2025, and he finished his Northwestern career with 12 sacks.
Film study has painted the same picture: this is a player who can collapse the pocket with strength, leverage and a violent bull rush off the edge.
In other words, his traits suggest there’s more there than the box score showed.
That’s a big reason why his fit with Mike Elko is so compelling. Texas A&M’s defensive system turned Cashius Howell into one of the nation’s most disruptive defenders last season, with 11.5 sacks and more than 30 pressures.
For a player like Saka, that kind of development clearly caught his attention.
"I found myself watching Texas A&M highlights like, man, these dudes get off the rock, get sacks and are disruptive. I wanted to be a part of that," Saka said.
Saka also said Texas A&M’s aggressive front and attack style stood out when he studied the Aggies after entering the portal.
If Elko and his staff deploy him the right way, Texas A&M may not have just landed another transfer. They may have landed their next difference-maker.
