Texas A&M basketball could be a major transfer portal player this offseason, with Bucky McMillan and the Aggies reportedly positioned near the top of NIL spending.

Texas A&M basketball is heading into the transfer portal window with momentum, money and a coach who’s already changed the trajectory of the program.

After guiding the Aggies to a 22-12 record and another NCAA Tournament appearance in his first season, Bucky McMillan now has a chance to make an even bigger offseason splash.

That’s why Texas A&M basketball and its NIL budget are becoming major talking points as the portal prepares to open on April 7.

The Aggies are expected to be one of the stronger financial players in the market, giving McMillan a real shot to address key roster needs and build on a season that finished with a second-round NCAA Tournament loss to Houston after a first-round win over Saint Mary’s.

Texas A&M enters the offseason in a much different position than it was in a year ago.

McMillan had to piece together nearly an entire roster after taking over the job, yet still kept the Aggies dancing into March.

Now, with three important players expected back, including forward Mackenzie Mgbako, there’s a more stable foundation in place.

The biggest priorities are clear.

The Aggies need more frontcourt size and another dependable scoring guard, especially after Rashaun Agee’s departure.

Agee was a huge part of last season’s success, leading Texas A&M in both scoring and rebounding during his lone season in College Station.

That makes the upcoming portal cycle critical, but it also makes the Aggies dangerous.

Programs with proven coaching, SEC backing and strong NIL resources are built to compete for premium transfers, and Texas A&M appears firmly in that conversation.

Whether the final spending total lands exactly where projections suggest or not, the bigger takeaway is obvious: McMillan has Texas A&M basketball operating like a serious contender.

After one season, the Aggies already look ahead of schedule, and this portal window could be where they make their biggest move yet.
