Texas A&M is searching for backcourt punch in the transfer portal, and UNC-Asheville scorer Kameron Taylor looks like a natural fit for Bucky McMillan.

Texas A&M didn’t waste any time getting to work once the 2026 college basketball transfer portal opened.

With reserve guard Josh Holloway and wing shooter Ruben Dominguez entering the portal, the Aggies suddenly have fresh questions to answer in the backcourt as Bucky McMillan shapes his second roster in College Station.

Reports linking A&M to UNC Asheville guard Kameron Taylor make plenty of sense, especially for a team that needs more shot creation and more downhill offense.

Taylor stands out because he brings the kind of offensive force Texas A&M lacked too often last season. The 6-7 sophomore averaged 18.9 points, 5.0 rebounds and 3.0 assists while shooting 45.3 percent from the floor for UNC Asheville in 2025-26.

He also topped 20 points in 17 games, showing the sort of takeover ability that can change a night when an offense gets stuck. For an Aggies team looking to stay in the NCAA Tournament mix, that profile is hard to ignore.

The fit goes beyond raw scoring. McMillan’s up-tempo system demands toughness, pace and guards who can attack before the defense gets set. Taylor’s size and ability to get into the paint check important boxes, even if his 3-point shooting still needs polish after a 28 percent season from deep.

Texas A&M doesn’t just need another body in the rotation. It needs a creator who can put pressure on the rim, collapse defenses and help replace some of the offensive uncertainty left by portal losses and frontcourt turnover, including the departure of senior forward Rashaun Agee.

Taylor reportedly has interest from more than 20 programs, so this won’t be easy. Still, if Texas A&M wants a portal addition who fits Bucky Ball and raises the team’s ceiling, Kameron Taylor looks like one of the clearest early targets on the board.
