Texas A&M football is seeing major spring momentum from edge rusher Marco Jones, whose added size, 2.5 sacks and rising leadership role stand out.

Texas A&M football may have added plenty of new faces to its defensive line room, but one of the biggest storylines of spring has come from a returning player already in the program.

Through eight spring practices, sophomore edge rusher Marco Jones has continued to emerge as one of the most intriguing defenders on the Aggies’ 2026 roster, giving Mike Elko’s defense another high-upside piece to build around.

Jones flashed real promise last season in a limited role. The sophomore appeared in eight games and finished with 10 tackles and 2.5 sacks while working behind All-American pass rusher Cashius Howell.

Even in that reserve role, Jones showed the burst and length that made him such an attractive recruit, and now his path to a much larger role looks wide open heading into the fall.

At 6-5 and nearly 260 pounds, Jones already has the frame coaches covet at the Jack position, where Texas A&M asks players to function as both edge defenders and linebackers.

What makes his spring even more notable is that he’s reportedly added another seven to 10 pounds this offseason while continuing to improve his movement and explosiveness.

That combination of size and speed could make him one of the Aggies’ most dangerous pass-rushing threats in 2026.

Jones is also taking on a bigger voice inside the locker room.

His selection to Texas A&M’s 2026 leadership council signals just how much trust the staff has in his development, both on and off the field.

That kind of responsibility usually isn’t handed out by accident, especially on a roster with as much competition as the Aggies have in the trenches.

There’s also no question where his attention is right now. Though Jones has a background as a two-sport athlete and could have pursued baseball, he’s made it clear that football is his priority.

For Texas A&M football, that’s a big deal. If Jones continues on this track, the Aggies may have their next breakout edge rusher ready to headline the defense.
