No. 15 Texas A&M softball claimed a huge SEC series win over No. 11 Georgia, using timely hits and lockdown pitching to capture another top-25 victory.
No. 15 Texas A&M softball added another valuable SEC win to its NCAA Tournament résumé Friday night, beating No. 11 Georgia 2-1 to take the weekend series in College Station.
After the teams split the first two games of the doubleheader, the Aggies answered with a poised finish in the finale, grinding out their third conference series victory of the season.
Texas A&M softball put itself in position early by matching Georgia’s lone breakthrough.
The Bulldogs grabbed a 1-0 lead in the second inning on a solo home run, but the Aggies didn’t let the momentum sit for long. KK Dement opened the bottom half with a single, and Paisley Allen later helped keep the inning alive.
With traffic on the bases, pinch hitter Maddie Sauni came through again, delivering an RBI hit that tied the game at 1-1 and gave A&M another clutch moment against a ranked opponent.
From there, the Aggies leaned on timely execution and steady pitching. In the fourth inning, Kelsey Mathis reached safely and moved into scoring position after a sacrifice bunt from Allen.
With two outs, Kennedy Powell produced the game’s biggest offensive swing, lacing an RBI double that brought home Mathis for the go-ahead run.
That was enough support for Texas A&M’s pitching staff. Sidne Peters took care of the rest in the seventh, retiring Georgia in order and finishing the win with back-to-back strikeouts to seal the 2-1 decision.
It was the kind of composed, postseason-style finish that continues to boost the Aggies’ profile as SEC play rolls on.
With another top-25 victory secured, Texas A&M now turns its attention to Tuesday’s home game against McNeese.
First pitch is scheduled for 6 p.m. CST, with the matchup set to stream on SEC Network+ and the ESPN App.
