Texas A&M freshman Gabi Rodriguez records a career-high 21 digs against Arkansas, continuing her remarkable debut season as the Aggies face growing SEC concerns.

Texas A&M volleyball may be searching for answers after consecutive SEC losses, but freshman libero Gabi Rodriguez continues to give the Aggies something they can count on.

Rodriguez delivered a career-high 21 digs in Sunday's four-set defeat at Arkansas, adding another impressive performance to a freshman season that's already included a Texas A&M program record.

The 12th-ranked Aggies fell 25-20, 25-17, 20-25 and 25-22 in Fayetteville, dropping to 10-7 overall and 3-2 in Southeastern Conference play.

But while the team struggled to find offensive consistency, Rodriguez continued making an impact defensively.

Her 21 digs surpassed the previous career high of 20 she established against Wisconsin in September. She's now reached double figures in digs in 15 of her first 17 collegiate matches, accumulating 225 through Sunday's contest.

Even more impressive, Rodriguez recently became the fastest freshman in Texas A&M history to record 200 career digs, reaching that milestone during the Aggies' five-set loss at Oklahoma.

That's an encouraging development for coach Jamie Morrison, whose team is trying to regain the momentum it established during a three-match winning streak to open conference play.

Against Arkansas, the Aggies couldn't overcome a sluggish start.

The Razorbacks controlled the opening two sets before Texas A&M finally responded in the third.

Outside hitter Kyndal Stowers led the comeback, finishing with 20 kills and 12 digs for her fifth double-double of the season.

Stowers also recorded two service aces, helping the Aggies build momentum during a tightly contested third set.

Texas A&M carried that energy into the fourth, opening a 9-5 advantage before Arkansas answered.

The Razorbacks eventually regained control and closed out the match, handing the defending national champions their second consecutive SEC defeat.

Rodriguez's performance was particularly important because Arkansas consistently challenged the Aggies defensively, forcing extended rallies and testing their ability to keep the ball alive.

Still, strong back-row play couldn't compensate for Texas A&M's offensive difficulties.

Arkansas finished with a 14-9 advantage in blocks, repeatedly disrupting the Aggies' attack.

Now the schedule gets tougher.

Texas A&M returns to Reed Arena on Friday to face No. 7 Florida, followed by another home SEC matchup against Auburn on Sunday.

The Aggies have dropped two straight after opening conference play with three consecutive victories, making this weekend an important opportunity to regain their footing.

Rodriguez can't solve every problem facing Texas A&M.

But with her consistency, defensive instincts and record-setting start, the freshman has already established herself as one of the Aggies' most dependable contributors.

Friday's match against Florida begins at 6 p.m. Central on SEC Network.
