The 2026 College Football Playoff schedule is set, and Texas A&M’s road back looks nasty after Mike Elko’s historic breakthrough season.
Texas A&M football now knows the finish line.
The College Football Playoff schedule is officially set, and if Mike Elko’s Aggies want another shot at the sport’s biggest stage, they’ll have to survive a regular-season gauntlet before anyone even talks about Las Vegas.
The 2026 College Football Playoff will again feature 12 teams, with first-round games beginning Dec. 18 and continuing Dec. 19.
The quarterfinals are scheduled for Dec. 30 at the Fiesta Bowl and New Year’s Day at the Rose, Peach and Cotton bowls.
The semifinals will follow Jan. 14 at the Orange Bowl and Jan. 15 at the Sugar Bowl.
Then comes the prize ... the 2027 CFP National Championship, set for Jan. 25 at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas. Kickoff is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. CT on ABC and ESPN.
For Texas A&M, that date isn’t just trivia, it’s the target.
Elko pushed the Aggies into the College Football Playoff for the first time last season, even if the ending was ugly.
Texas A&M’s 10-3 loss to Miami at Kyle Field left a brutal aftertaste, but the bigger picture still mattered.
The Aggies started 11-0 for the first time since 1992 and proved Elko could build a real contender in Bryan-College Station.
Now comes the hard part ... doing it again.
Texas A&M lost key production from that breakthrough team, but the roster reload was aggressive.
The Aggies signed the nation’s No. 4 transfer class and No. 7 recruiting class, giving Elko another talent-heavy group to mold.
The schedule, though, is a monster.
CBS Sports rates Texas A&M’s slate as the No. 8 toughest in the country.
Arizona State waits in non-conference play, and the new nine-game SEC grind includes Alabama, South Carolina, Tennessee, Oklahoma and Texas over the final six weeks.
The CFP path is clear. The road to get there is anything but.
