Five-star offensive lineman Mark Matthews isn’t looking around as Texas A&M keeps stacking Florida talent in its loaded 2027 class.

Texas A&M recruiting is rolling, and five-star offensive lineman Mark Matthews is making it clear that the Aggies aren’t just holding his commitment. They’re strengthening it.

Matthews, the top-ranked pledge in Texas A&M’s 2027 recruiting class, picked the Aggies over Miami, giving Mike Elko and offensive line coach Adam Cushing a monster win out of Fort Lauderdale powerhouse St. Thomas Aquinas.

And while early five-star commitments can get messy fast, Matthews doesn’t sound like a player planning to shop around.

“I’m not taking OVs anywhere else, so I want to take [visits] back-to-back,” Matthews told 247Sports insider Zack Blostein.

That’s a loud statement in modern recruiting, especially from a blue-chip lineman sitting in Miami’s backyard.

Programs don’t stop calling players like Matthews, but Texas A&M has clearly made a strong enough impression that he’s focused on College Station instead of lining up more official visits.

The relationship piece matters here. Matthews has built a strong connection with Elko and Cushing, but it’s not just the coaches selling him. It’s the class.

Texas A&M already has 17 commitments in the 2027 cycle, and Matthews has spent time around many of them. He called the group “good players, athletes, and dogs,” which is exactly the kind of tone Aggies fans want from the centerpiece of the class.

The pitch is simple and powerful ... Texas A&M believes it’s building toward blue-blood status through development, recruiting muscle and NFL results.

After the Aggies had a record 10 players selected in the 2026 NFL Draft, that development message has more bite.

“People want to win,” Matthews said. “The coaching staff and the development have shown the athletes in Florida that they’re doing something. We’re just going to keep recruiting, next class, next class, and just keep being great.”

Texas A&M’s Florida push got even stronger Tuesday with four-star edge Frederick Ards III and three-star athlete Loia Valade joining the class.

Matthews hasn’t technically closed the door forever, but this sounds pretty close. For now, the Aggies have their five-star anchor, and he’s recruiting like a future face of the program.
